Single incision laparoscopic surgery (SILS) often referred to as "virtually scarless surgery", is a minimally invasive procedure with little to no scarring. Dr. Ahmad has invented and developed a novel technique to perform Single Incision Lap Band and Gastric Bypass procedures. He does this using Teleflex Needle Graspers, by means of a single incision hidden in the belly button. This allows precision and safety that cannot be achieved by other SILS techniques. This great advance in technique was presented by Dr. Ahmad at the Emerging Technologies Session of the International Conference of Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS 2011). He was the first surgeon in the world to describe Single incision Laparoscopic Gastric Bypass utilizing the Teleflex Needle Graspers. Using this innovative technique, Dr. Ahmad is able to perform these procedures with greater safety and precision than the usual technique.
The Single Incision offers similar recovery times as standard laparoscopic surgery, which in many cases is still significantly better when compared to standard "open" surgery.
